Balletbase is an amateur contemporary ballet performance group based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Founded in 2006 by choreographer Bilqis Hijjas, Balletbase aims to foster a meeting place between classical ballet technique and contemporary dance sensibilities. It strives to expose Malaysian audiences to contemporary dance through the lens of classical ballet, to provide an opportunity for young classically-trained dancers who wish to explore the theory and performance of contemporary dance, and to showcase the high level of classical ballet training provided by ballet studios across the Klang Valley. Please note that Balletbase is a performance group, not a dance studio, and it does not conduct classes. Balletbase dancers all train and teach at other studios, and are admitted by audition only. To be informed about upcoming auditions, or for more information, contact Bilqis on 017 310 3769 or email
The group rushed back to KL the next day to reprise 'Dari Hulu ke Hilir' with 'Gasp/Stuck', choreographed by Crystal Low Sim Wei, at the Youth '10 expo at PWTC on Sunday 30 May. |
