Food is one of the most important aspects of Malaysian life. It brings people together and keeps them together. Whether or not you eat in stalls, hotels, at home or in coffee shops represent statements about our character and lives. Similarly, the act of feeding and hosting others reveals the character of our affections and ambitions.

This exhibition is an exploration of physical, emotional and even spiritual hungers, and our need to assuage them. On a deeper level the theme recalls how uncontrolled appetites have led to tremendous destruction of natural resources and the oppression of peoples. Under the guise of development and
modernisation, we have inflicted irreversible ecological damage to the forests, oceans and hills that surround and support us. Why has our hunger been allowed to run unchecked?

Art for Nature is an annual charity art exhibition held in aid of WWF-Malaysia. It is generously sponsored by Hijjas Kasturi Associates. This exhibition is a unique showcase for Malaysian and international artists in support of nature conservation. Proceeds will support artists and WWF-Malaysia’s work in safeguarding our unique natural heritage for all Malaysians.

WWF-Malaysia, the national conservation trust, currently runs more than 50 projects covering a diverse range of environmental protection and nature conservation work. Since 1972, WWF-Malaysia has worked on important conservation projects, from saving endangered species such as tigers and turtles, to protecting our highland forests, rivers and seas.
