It is located beneath the central plaza and accessible from the loggia beside the main house, and is used to store and display exhibitions of visual art. The Underground Gallery is a single space with walls of different sizes, surrounding a central light and air well. The floor is of sandstone with a decorative edge of river pebbles. It is one of the few spaces at Rimbun Dahan with air conditioning in addition to ceiling fans, to protect the condition of the art works. The gallery has its own sound system, adjustable track lighting, and track suspension system for art works. There is also a sprung wooden floor that can be installed in the central air well for performances. Every year, the Underground Gallery hosts two major exhibitions which are open to the public: the exhibition of the Malaysian Australia Visual Artists' Residency towards the beginning of the year, and Art for Nature in the middle of the year. Between these exhibitions, the gallery displays selected works from the Rimbun Dahan permanent collection, and may viewed by appointment only. |
